Heat

Week 2 of our trip and in transit from Las Vegas to Death Valley; the outside temperature is 47C. Simply, unbearable. If this is how MSers feel in more moderate temperatures I really feel for them. I am now more determined than ever to try and do something for MS-related fatigue and heat sensitivity. I have some ideas.

  1. Thanks for your post and empathy! And please come visit us in in the extremely humid southern US (where it is difficult for perspiration to work!). My question on fatigue is this: Should I ignore fatigue and will myself to carry on (after spasms subside) or is overdoing it risky? I do not get a straight answer on this from my doctor.

  2. Re: "Should I ignore fatigue and will myself to carry on (after spasms subside) or is overdoing it risky?"I tell my MSers not to overdo things and work within self-defined limits. Treat you energy levels as you would a battery and plan your day around them. Pushing yourself when you are too tired is not good. Whether or not it makes MS worse in the long run is not known; but there are theoretical reasons why it may do so.
