#ThinkSpeak & #NewsSpeak: social medicine the great disruptor

We are in the process of ‘professionalising‘ the Barts-MS blog, by reducing the number of posts and improving the quality and relevance of each post for pwMS. As part of this transition, I will be moving all of my #ThinkSpeak posts, which are not directly relevant to MS onto Medium, a relatively new and evolving social media platform. Although the #ThinkSpeak post ‘#SocialMedicine the great disruptor‘ that I posted on Medium is underpinned by many ideas that I have developed on this blog I don’t think its content is appropriate for this site.

    1. Not to worry. Everything MS-related will be on this site. However, everything somehow-unrelated, or off-target, will be posted elsewhere.

    1. Is that ProfG moving sideways…..He has not been very crabby lately, but it sounds like he is being a fiddler…(Boom Cha!).P.S. Just trying to make Annonie mouse laugh…

  1. Personally, I like and get something from every article posted. I'm sorry to see others don't feel the same way.

    1. Totally agree! I have benefited so much from the 'one stop shop' I don't like the sense of anxiety this post has generated- that I may miss out on anything pertinent, however indirectly connected to my having MS. Accessing Bart's is part of my daily routine and I only go hunting elsewhere if there's a post I'd like additional information on. Views and opinions of the Bart's team enhance the provision of information. My experience of other sites is that they are all too dry, benign and frustratingly limited by (PC) acceptable stance only! A covering statement making it clear that this blog is wide-ranging, includes the views of the authors, and aims to be accessible to the majority will surely cover it? Please don't throw the baby out with the bath water!

    2. Keep clapping!ProfG is a bit of a techie, but having looked through think-speak, there seems to few non-MS posts that the only "medium" I will be watching will have Patrica Arquette in it.Last time profG was really off-topic was when he had piles…."Would a God invent the anal sphincter…." fascinating reading, wonder what DrDrey would have made of that? :-). I guess the pain can make you do all sorts of strange things:-). Yep there liquid gold is in the blog somewhere, although as it is so terribly curated and the search function is so bad you'll have difficulty finding it…but was about 2009-2011.Yep I am just getting in a few one-liners before I get neutered (rumours on the street. Dry and PC seems to order of the day)…I will find out my fate soon, as the corporates give us their vision…..but will I spit the dummy like a spoiled brat..maybe….It is voluntary after all. However, reading the blurb on Wiki, I wonder what is the intent of the multiple platforms, Is ProfG after money?.., it is clear that "medium" is after it…Long-hand tweets is this the future. We could put ads in the blog….Google would love it…."In March 2017, Medium announced a membership program for $5 per month, offering access to "well-researched explainers, insightful perspectives, and useful knowledge with a longer shelf life", with authors being paid a flat amount per article"."Medium announced that payment to authors will be weighted based on how many "claps" they receive so remember keep clapping….yep keep clapping".:-(

    3. "Medium announced that payment to authors will be weighted based on how many "claps" they receive so remember keep clapping….yep keep clapping".Yuck

  2. In Prof G's evolutionary medicine post he recommended we read the NYT article about Medium. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/20/technology/evan-williams-medium-twitter-internet.html?The $5- fee is an attempt to prevent the inevitable race to the bottom. Everyone expects everything for free, which includes fake news, but when we get fake news everyone complains. Evan Williams, the founder of Medium, is trying to fight this from the rear. The good news is that he is getting support from the likes of Belinda and Melissa Gates, The Wellcome Trust, etc. I am impressed with the fact that Prof. G is supporting this too. Why shouldn't we value and support talent? Why are writers different to musicians or sport stars? Why should Barts-MS be different? You guys deserve more.

    1. Not to mention the poor porn stars in the San Fernando valley, the bankrupt small hoteliers, taxi drivers, etc.
